A Cancer Care Center Reflecting Greenwich’s Needs

Cancer Care
Close to Home

The proposed Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Greenwich is a reflection of the needs and desires of the Greenwich community. The majority of Greenwich residents say they desire nationally recognized cancer care for themselves or a loved one directly in their community. However, on average, most Greenwich residents must travel more than an hour away – often to New York City – for specialty cancer care.
For anyone who has undergone cancer treatment the flexibility to receive care close to home is critical to patient comfort and satisfaction. Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Greenwich will deliver this convenience – in the context of a nationally recognized hospital. The Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Greenwich will offer the highest level of comfort and expertise locally in a setting that is uniquely Greenwich.

Community-Focused Sustainable Design

In developing the revised concept for the center, we listened carefully and worked closely with neighbors to account for specific community needs. Set in a healing environment, steps from Greenwich Hospital and surrounded by broad expanses of gardens and green space, the proposed center respects the nature and character of the surrounding community. The new center integrates sustainable design – from site selection to energy efficiency. It also promotes walkability within a cohesive hospital complex, and facilitates pedestrian-friendly traffic flow for the surrounding community.
